Browser extension

Privacy Policy

Effective date: July 23, 2026 · Applies to the ChatGPT Speed Booster browser extension

THE SHORT VERSION

Speed Booster collects nothing. No analytics, no tracking, no accounts, no external servers. Every optimization runs locally in your browser, and your ChatGPT conversations never leave your device.

1. Who we are

ChatGPT Speed Booster ("the extension") is an independent browser extension developed and maintained by a solo developer. Contact: contact@webpurposes.co.

The extension is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by OpenAI or ChatGPT.

2. What the extension does

Speed Booster improves the performance of the ChatGPT web interface (chatgpt.com and chat.openai.com) by optimizing how your browser renders the page: lazy-loading history, collapsing long code blocks, skipping off-screen rendering, and similar techniques. All of this happens inside your browser.

3. Data we collect

None. The extension does not collect, transmit, sell, or share any personal data, browsing data, or conversation content. Specifically, it has:

The content of your ChatGPT conversations is read only inside your browser, by code running on your device, solely to apply performance optimizations, power the in-page search, the conversation map, and exports you explicitly trigger. That content is never stored by the extension beyond the lifetime of the page and is never transmitted anywhere.

4. Data stored on your device

The extension stores a small amount of non-personal data using your browser's built-in extension storage:

DataWherePurpose
Your settings (toggles, profile, language, thresholds)chrome.storage.syncRemember your preferences; Chrome may sync them between your own browsers if you use Chrome sync
A randomly generated install identifierchrome.storage.syncGenerated locally at install; used only to keep local state consistent. It is never transmitted anywhere and cannot identify you
In-extension notification historychrome.storage.localShow recent extension notifications in the popup

If you use Chrome's built-in sync, Google may sync chrome.storage.sync data between your devices under Google's privacy policy; that synchronization is performed by your browser, not by this extension.

Uninstalling the extension deletes this data. You can also clear it anytime from your browser's extension settings.

5. Permissions we request and why

PermissionWhy it's needed
storageSave your settings on your device
activeTab / tabsDetect whether the current tab is ChatGPT, apply your settings to open ChatGPT tabs, and show live performance stats in the popup
Host access to chatgpt.com and chat.openai.comRun the optimization script on ChatGPT pages only. The extension has no access to any other website

6. Exports

When you export a conversation (Markdown, text, or PDF), the file is generated locally in your browser and saved directly to your device. Nothing is uploaded.

7. Third-party services

The extension itself uses no third-party services. Optional links inside the extension (for example to our support page or the developer's Patreon) open external websites in a new tab; those sites have their own privacy policies.

8. Children

The extension does not knowingly collect any data from anyone, including children, and is not directed at children under 13.

9. Chrome Web Store User Data Policy

Use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. Since the extension collects no user data, no data is used, transferred, or sold for any purpose.

10. Changes to this policy

If the extension's behavior ever changes in a way that affects privacy, this policy will be updated and the effective date above revised before the change ships. Material changes will be noted in the extension's release notes.
